The Postmaster Grade I, II, and III posts were originally created to provide a promotional channel for Postal Assistants and Sorting Assistants within India Post.
In October 2019, the Department of Posts merged the Postmaster Cadre with the General Line Cadre, aligning promotions under LSG (Level 5), HSG-II (Level 6), and HSG-I (Level 7).
Thus, the eligibility now follows the General Line pattern, though old terms (Postmaster Grade I/II/III) are still sometimes used informally.
