The core of the Driver selection is the practical driving assessment:

  • Handling official vehicles (Staff Car / Light Motor Vehicle)

  • Starting, stopping, and maneuvering safely

  • Parking, reversing, and negotiating obstacles

  • Observing traffic rules and road safety regulations

  • Vehicle maintenance basics (checking fuel, oil, tire pressure, minor repairs)

  • Driving under different road conditions (urban, rural, highways)

⚠️ Note: Passing the practical driving test is mandatory for final selection.


2. Written / Online Test (if applicable)

Some postal circles conduct a basic written or online test:


Typically objective-type questions (MCQs); qualifying or merit-based depending on circle notification.


3. English / Local Language (if applicable)

  • Reading and understanding simple instructions

  • Comprehension of notices or circulars related to postal work

  • Ability to communicate effectively in the local language of the posting circle


4. Medical / Physical Fitness

  • Good vision (with or without correction as specified in the notification)

  • Hearing ability adequate for safe driving

  • Overall physical fitness to operate vehicles for extended periods

    Important Notes

    • Practical driving skills are the most important for selection.

    • Written/online tests are secondary and may be absent in some circles.
