A Driver (Staff Car Driver) is a Group C post in the Department of Posts.
Responsible for driving official vehicles assigned to senior officers or departments.
This is a specialized operational role requiring a valid driving license and safe driving experience.
Typical duties include:
Driving government vehicles safely and efficiently
Maintaining vehicle condition, fuel, and logbooks
Ensuring timely pick-up and drop-off of officers or official goods
Transporting postal staff, documents, or parcels as per official requirement
Ensuring adherence to traffic rules and road safety regulations
Minor vehicle maintenance and reporting serious repairs to authorities
Note: Drivers may be required to work odd hours or travel long distances depending on postings.
Nationality: Indian citizen (or eligible migrant as per government rules)
Educational Qualification: 10th pass (Secondary School Certificate) from a recognized board
Driving License: Must have a valid heavy vehicle or staff car driving license
Experience: Some notifications require 2–5 years of driving experience, especially with government vehicles
Age Limit: Usually 18–27 years, with age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates

Pay Level: Level‑2 (7th CPC) → Basic Pay: ₹19,900 – ₹63,200 per month
In-Hand Salary: Around ₹22,000 – ₹28,000 per month, including:
Dearness Allowance (DA)
House Rent Allowance (HRA) depending on city
Transport Allowance (TA)
Other central government benefits like PF, medical facilities
