The eligibility criteria for the Railway Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) Exam are defined by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB). It includes nationality, age limit, educational qualifications, and medical standards. Below are the details:

1. Nationality

The candidate must be an Indian citizen or meet the following conditions:

  • A subject of Nepal or Bhutan.
  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, intending to settle permanently in India.
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam intending to settle in India permanently.

2. Age Limit

a. General Category:

  • Minimum Age: 18 years
  • Maximum Age: 28 years

b. Age Relaxation (as per government norms):

  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years (up to 31 years)
  • SC/ST: 5 years (up to 33 years)
  • PwD (Persons with Disabilities): 10 years (additional for respective categories).

3. Educational Qualification

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Must have passed 10th standard (Matriculation) or equivalent from a recognized board.
  • Must hold an ITI (Industrial Training Institute) Certificate in a relevant trade approved by NCVT/SCVT.

OR

  • Diploma/Degree in Engineering in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution.

Relevant Trades for ITI/Diploma:

  • Electrician
  • Fitter
  • Mechanic
  • Turner
  • Instrument Mechanic
  • Welder
  • Machinist
  • Wireman
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic
  • Other trades related to the post.

4. Medical Fitness Standards

Candidates must satisfy the prescribed medical standards for the ALP post, which ensures they are fit for the duties. Key parameters include:

Vision:

  • Distance vision: 6/6, 6/9 without glasses.
  • Near vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 without glasses.
  • No color blindness or night blindness.
  • General physical fitness as required by the railway medical board.

5. Other Conditions

  • Candidates awaiting results of their qualifying examination are not eligible to apply.
  • A valid certification or degree in the relevant field must be produced during document verification.

6. Key Points for Reserved Categories

  • Proof of caste or community must be provided for availing of age relaxation.
  • Candidates under PwD should ensure they meet the specific disability criteria prescribed.
