1. Exam Purpose

The ALP exam is designed to select candidates for the operation and maintenance of locomotives, trains, and other rail equipment. The role involves assisting the Loco Pilot in driving trains and ensuring safe and efficient operations.

Salary and Benefits

  • Initial Pay (Basic): Approx. ₹19,900 per month (Level 2 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix).
  • Additional allowances include DA, HRA, and other benefits as per railway norms.

Selection Process

The selection process consists of multiple stages:

a. First Stage CBT (Computer Based Test):

  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Number of Questions: 75
  • Subjects: Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness (Current Affairs).

b. Second Stage CBT:

Part A:

  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Number of Questions: 100
  • Subjects: Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, Basic Science and Engineering, and General Awareness.

Part B:

  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Number of Questions: 75
  • Subject: Relevant trade knowledge (as per ITI/Diploma syllabus).
  • Qualifying Nature: Minimum 35% marks required (no relaxation for reserved categories).

c. Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT):

  • Only for candidates applying for ALP (not applicable for Technician posts).
  • Tests for reaction time, decision-making ability, and other aptitudes.
  • Requires a minimum 42 marks in each test battery.

d. Document Verification and Medical Examination:

  • Candidates shortlisted based on the above stages must undergo document verification and meet medical fitness standards.
