The SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) exam syllabus is divided into three tiers, each designed to assess different skills. Here's a detailed breakdown:

1. Tier-I: Computer-Based Examination (Objective Type)

Subjects and Topics

a. General Intelligence (Reasoning)

  • Verbal Reasoning: Analogy, Classification, Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Direction Sense, Series (Number/Alphabet).
  • Non-Verbal Reasoning: Pattern Recognition, Figure Series, Mirror Images, Embedded Figures.
  • Logical Reasoning: Statement-Conclusion, Syllogism, Venn Diagrams.

b. General Awareness

  • Static General Knowledge: History, Geography, Indian Polity, Indian Economy.
  • Science: Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Computers.
  • Current Affairs: National and International events.
  • Miscellaneous: Books and Authors, Awards, Sports, Important Dates.

c. Quantitative Aptitude (Mathematics)

  • Arithmetic: Number System, Simplification, Ratio & Proportion, Percentage, Profit & Loss, Time & Work, Simple & Compound Interest, Average.
  • Algebra: Linear Equations, Algebraic Identities.
  • Geometry: Triangle, Circle, and Quadrilateral properties.
  • Mensuration: Area, Volume, and Perimeter of Geometrical Shapes.
  • Trigonometry: Height and Distance, Trigonometric Ratios.
  • Data Interpretation: Pie Charts, Bar Graphs, Line Graphs, Tables.

d. English Language

  • Grammar and Vocabulary: Fill in the Blanks, Sentence Correction, Error Spotting, Synonyms/Antonyms.
  • Comprehension: Reading Passages, Cloze Tests.
  • Sentence Rearrangement: Ordering of Sentences.
  • Idioms and Phrases: Commonly used expressions.

2. Tier-II: Descriptive Paper (Offline)

  • Essay Writing: Topics related to current affairs, social issues, environmental concerns, etc. (200–250 words).
  • Letter/Application Writing: Formal and informal letters based on official communication (150–200 words).
  • Marks: 100
  • Duration: 60 minutes (80 minutes for scribe).
  • Qualifying Marks: 33%

3. Tier-III: Skill Test / Typing Test (Qualifying)

Typing Test (For LDC/JSA):

  • English: 35 words per minute (wpm).
  • Hindi: 30 words per minute (wpm).
  • Duration: 10 minutes.

Skill Test (For DEO):

  • Data Entry Speed: 8,000 key depressions per hour.
  • Duration: 15 minutes.

Final Selection Criteria:

  • Tier-I and Tier-II scores are considered for final merit.
  • Tier-III is qualifying in nature.
