The SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) exam follows a three-tier selection process. Here's the detailed exam pattern for each tier:

1. Tier-I: Computer-Based Test (CBT)



Key Points for Tier-I:

  • Total Questions: 100
  • Total Marks: 200
  • Negative Marking: 0.50 marks deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Question Type: Objective type (Multiple Choice Questions).
  • Medium: English and Hindi (except the English section).

2. Tier-II: Descriptive Paper



Key Points for Tier-II:

  • Mode of Exam: Offline (Pen and Paper).
  • Medium: English or Hindi (choose one).
  • Qualifying Marks: 33%.
  • Purpose: Tests writing skills and grammar.

3. Tier-III: Skill Test/Typing Test (Qualifying Nature)

For Data Entry Operator (DEO):

  • Skill Test: Minimum typing speed of 8,000 key depressions per hour on the computer.
  • Test Duration: 15 minutes.
  • Candidates must type a given printed passage accurately.

For Lower Division Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA):

  • Typing Test: Minimum typing speed of:
  • 35 words per minute (wpm) in English, or
  • 30 words per minute (wpm) in Hindi.
  • Test Duration: 10 minutes.

Note: Skill Test/Typing Test is qualifying in nature, and the final merit list is based on performance in Tier-I and Tier-II.

Final Selection Criteria:

  • Tier-I and Tier-II Marks are considered for final merit.
  • Document Verification is conducted after qualifying all stages.
