The IBPS PO Exam Pattern is divided into three stages:

  • Preliminary Exam
  • Mains Exam
  • Interview

1. Preliminary Exam Pattern (Objective Type - Online)


  • Nature of Exam: Qualifying (Marks are not added to the final merit).
  • Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Sectional Timing: Each section has a fixed time limit of 20 minutes.
  • Cut-off: Candidates must clear sectional and overall cut-offs to qualify for the Mains Exam.

2. Mains Exam Pattern (Objective + Descriptive - Online)


  • Nature of Exam: Marks obtained in the Mains Exam are counted for the final merit list.
  • Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer in objective sections.

Descriptive Test:

  • Writing Essay and Letter in English Language.
  • Evaluates writing skills and communication ability.

3. Interview Process (Face-to-Face)

  • Marks: 100

Weightage:

  • Mains Exam (80%) + Interview (20%) = Final Score

Qualifying Marks:

  • General Category: 40%
  • SC/ST/OBC/PwD: 35%

Interview Focus:

  • Banking Knowledge, General Awareness, Communication Skills, and Personality Assessment.

4. Final Selection Process

  • Mains Exam + Interview Marks: Combined to form the final merit list.
  • Candidates must clear the minimum cutoff set by IBPS.
  • Provisional Allotment: Based on vacancies and merit ranking in the final list.

Key Features:

  • Computer-Based Exam: Both Prelims and Mains are conducted online.
  • No Section Switching: Candidates must attempt sections within the allotted time.
  • Language Option: Questions are available in English and Hindi, except for the English section.
