The IBPS Clerk Exam Pattern consists of two stages: Preliminary Exam and Mains Exam. Both exams are conducted online (Computer-Based Test). There is no interview for IBPS Clerk recruitment, and final selection is based on Mains Exam scores.

1. Preliminary Exam Pattern


Key Features:

  • Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Qualifying Stage: Candidates must clear sectional and overall cutoffs to qualify for the Mains Exam.

2. Mains Exam Pattern


Key Features:

  • Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Sectional Timings: Each section has a fixed time limit; candidates cannot switch between sections.
  • Final Merit List: Prepared based on Mains scores.

3. Language Proficiency Test (LPT) (if required)

  • Candidates must read, write, and speak the local/regional language of the state/UT they are applying for.
  • Those who fail to meet language proficiency may be disqualified.

Key Points to Note:

  • Prelims are Qualifying in Nature: Marks are not added to the final merit list.
  • Mains Score Determines Selection: High scores increase chances of selection.
  • No Interview Process: Final selection is purely based on the Mains Exam
