1. Examination Type

  • Mode: Open Book Examination (OBE)

  • Conducted By: Controller General of Communication Accounts (CGCA)

  • Frequency: Typically once a year, depending on vacancies


2. Papers

The AAO exam usually consists of two papers:

Note: Both papers are open book, meaning candidates can refer to prescribed books and manuals during the exam.

3. Marks and Qualifying Criteria

  • Maximum Marks: 100 per paper

  • Qualifying Marks:

    • General Category: 45% per paper, 50% aggregate

    • SC/ST Category: 38% per paper, 43% aggregate

  • Exemption:

    • Candidates scoring 60% or more in a paper are exempted from that paper in the next two subsequent examinations.


4. Syllabus Highlights

  • Paper I:

    • General Financial Rules (GFRs)

    • Supplementary Rules (SRs)

    • CCS Rules: Leave, Pension, Joining Time

    • GPF Rules and Accounting Principles

  • Paper II:

    • Practical application of DA, HRA, CCA, CEA

    • Service rules for Gramin Dak Sevaks (Sections III, VI, VII, IX, XI)

    • Case studies and problem-solving based on postal finance operations


5. Important Notes

  • Books Allowed: Prescribed manuals and rulebooks are allowed during the exam.

  • Mode of Application: Applications are submitted through respective Divisional Offices, not online.

  • Preparation Tip: Focus equally on theory (rules & regulations) and practical accounting applications.
