1. Exam Mode

  • Conducted either circle-specific by India Post or through SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) Exam.

  • Mode: Online (Computer-Based Test) for SSC CHSL or Offline (Pen-Paper) for some postal circles.


2. Stages of Selection



Note: Written exam carries merit weightage, while typing/data entry and skill tests are usually qualifying in nature.

3. Written Exam / Online Test Details


  • Duration: 90–120 minutes depending on the notification

  • Negative marking: Usually 0.25 marks per wrong answer (check notification)


4. Typing / Data Entry Test (DEST)

  • English Typing: Minimum 35–40 WPM

  • Hindi Typing: As specified by the circle

  • Qualifying nature: Marks not counted in merit, only must pass to proceed to final selection


5. Key Points

  • Written exam merit determines ranking, typing/data entry is qualifying

  • Skill test, if any, is qualifying only

  • Circle-specific notifications may have slight variations in marks, duration, and qualifying speeds

  • Local language knowledge may be tested in some postal circles
