The Railway Group D exam pattern is designed to test the general aptitude and physical fitness of candidates for various Level 1 posts in Indian Railways. The selection process consists of multiple stages. Here’s a detailed breakdown:

1. Computer-Based Test (CBT)

The CBT is the first stage of the selection process. It consists of objective-type multiple-choice questions.

  • 1 mark for each correct answer.
  • Negative Marking: 1/3 marks deducted for each incorrect answer.

2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

  • Candidates who qualify for the CBT are called for the PET. The PET tests the physical fitness required for the job.

Criteria for PET:

For Male Candidates:

  • Lift and carry 35 kg of weight for 100 meters in 2 minutes without putting it down.
  • Run a distance of 1,000 meters in 4 minutes and 15 seconds.

For Female Candidates:

  • Lift and carry 20 kg of weight for 100 meters in 2 minutes without putting it down.
  • Run a distance of 1,000 meters in 5 minutes and 40 seconds.
  • For PwD Candidates: Exempted from PET but must pass a medical examination.

3. Document Verification (DV)

Candidates who clear the PET are shortlisted for document verification. During this stage:

  • Candidates must present original documents such as educational certificates, caste/category certificates (if applicable), and identity proof.
  • Failing to present the required documents may lead to disqualification.

4. Medical Examination

  • After document verification, candidates must undergo a medical test to ensure they meet the required medical standards for the job.

Key Points:

  • Vision standards, hearing ability, and overall fitness are checked.
  • The medical standards depend on the specific job applied for.
