The eligibility criteria for the Railway Group D exam are set by the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) and must be met by all candidates. The criteria are based on nationality, educational qualification, age limit, and other requirements. Here's a detailed overview:

1. Nationality

Candidates must fulfill one of the following:

  • Be a citizen of India, or
  • Be a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
  • Be a Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanent settlement, or
  • Be a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia), or Vietnam with the intention of permanent settlement in India.

Note: Candidates who are not Indian citizens must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

2. Educational Qualification

  • Minimum Requirement: Candidates must have passed Class 10 (Matriculation) or equivalent from a recognized board or institution.

Other Acceptable Qualification:

  • ITI Certificate from institutions recognized by NCVT/SCVT.
  • Equivalent qualification as recognized by the government.

Note: Candidates appearing for or awaiting results of their Class 10/ITI exams are not eligible.

3. Age Limit

  • Minimum Age: 18 years
  • Maximum Age: 33 years

4. Physical Fitness

  • Candidates must meet specific physical standards to qualify for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) stage. These standards vary for male and female candidates.

PET Requirements:

Male Candidates:

  • Lift 35 kg of weight and carry it for 100 meters in 2 minutes without putting it down.
  • Run 1,000 meters in 4 minutes and 15 seconds.

Female Candidates:

  • Lift 20 kg of weight and carry it for 100 meters in 2 minutes without putting it down.
  • Run 1,000 meters in 5 minutes and 40 seconds.
  • PwD Candidates: Exempted from PET but must pass the medical test.

5. Medical Standards

  • Candidates must pass a medical examination to confirm their fitness for the job.
  • The medical test evaluates vision, hearing, and general physical health as per the job requirements.

6. Other Requirements

  • Language Proficiency: Candidates should be proficient in the language of the region they are applying to or meet the requirements mentioned in the notification.
  • Application Limit: Candidates can only apply to one RRB at a time for Group D recruitment.
