The SSC Stenographer Exam Syllabus is divided into two stages:

1. Computer-Based Test (CBT) Syllabus

  • The CBT consists of three sections—General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and English Language & Comprehension.

Section-wise Syllabus:

A. General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 Questions, 50 Marks)

Verbal Reasoning:

  • Analogies

  • Coding-Decoding
  • Series (Number, Alphabetical, and Logical)
  • Blood Relations
  • Direction Sense Test
  • Ranking and Order

Non-Verbal Reasoning:

  • Mirror and Water Images

  • Visual Reasoning
  • Pattern Completion

Logical Reasoning:

  • Statement and Conclusion
  • Syllogism
  • Cause and Effect
  • Puzzle Solving

B. General Awareness (50 Questions, 50 Marks)

Current Affairs:

  • National and International Events
  • Sports, Awards, and Honors
  • Books and Authors
  • Important Dates

Static GK:

  • History (Ancient, Medieval, Modern)
  • Geography (Physical, Political, Economic)
  • Indian Polity and Constitution
  • Economy (Basic Terms, Budget, Economic Policies)

Science and Technology:

  • Physics, Chemistry, and Biology Basics
  • Inventions and Discoveries
  • Environmental Issues

C. English Language & Comprehension (100 Questions, 100 Marks)

Grammar and Vocabulary:

  • Parts of Speech (Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Adjectives, Adverbs)
  • Articles and Prepositions
  • Tenses (Past, Present, Future)
  • Subject-Verb Agreement
  • Active and Passive Voice
  • Direct and Indirect Speech

Comprehension Skills:

  • Passage-Based Questions
  • Cloze Tests
  • Sentence Rearrangement
  • Fill in the Blanks
  • Error Spotting and Sentence Correction

Vocabulary Usage:

  • Synonyms and Antonyms
  • One-Word Substitutions
  • Idioms and Phrases

2. Skill Test Syllabus

The Skill Test assesses Stenography proficiency and transcription speed:

Dictation: Passage dictated for 10 minutes.

Speed Requirement:

  • Grade C: 100 words per minute (wpm)
  • Grade D: 80 words per minute (wpm)

Transcription Time:

Grade C:

  • English – 40 minutes
  • Hindi – 55 minutes

Grade D:

  • English – 50 minutes
  • Hindi – 65 minutes

Focus Areas for Skill Test Preparation:

  • Short forms and abbreviations commonly used in stenography.
  • Typing accuracy and formatting.
  • Listening and quick transcription skills.

Important Notes:

  • The CBT is qualifying in nature, and candidates must meet the cut-off marks to proceed to the Skill Test.
  • The Skill Test is qualifying only, and performance in the CBT determines the final merit list.
  • Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer in CBT.
