Job Role of IBPS PO

An IBPS PO starts as a Probationary Officer (Scale I) and is trained to handle various banking functions. The initial period is a probation/training phase lasting 2 years, where you’re exposed to different departments.

1. Customer Handling

  • Resolve queries and complaints.
  • Assist with account opening, loans, and banking services.

2. Loan Processing

  • Evaluate loan applications.
  • Verify documents and monitor loan disbursements and repayments.

3. Operations Management

  • Supervise daily branch activities.
  • Ensure compliance with banking regulations and policies.

4. Sales and Business Development

  • Promote bank products like deposits, credit cards, mutual funds, etc.
  • Meet branch targets for growth and profitability.

5. Clerical Oversight

  • Manage clerical staff and ensure smooth branch functioning.
  • Approve transactions above the clerk’s limit.

6. Report Generation

  • Maintain internal reports on cash flow, loans, and customer service metrics.

Training

  • PO training covers customer service, banking laws, accounting, and digital systems.
  • Often includes rotational postings in departments like loans, forex, treasury, etc.

An IBPS PO can rise to top executive positions in the bank through a mix of seniority, performance, and internal exams.
