Job Role of IBPS Clerk

Clerks are the backbone of day-to-day banking operations. After selection, you're posted in one of the 11 participating public sector banks based on your preference and merit.

Core Responsibilities

1. Customer Service

  • Handle inquiries about accounts, loans, and services.
  • Assist customers with transactions, complaints, and requests.

2. Cash Handling

  • Operate as a cashier in some branches.
  • Accept deposits, handle withdrawals, and issue cheques/drafts.

3. Data Entry & Record Keeping

  • Update and verify customer records and transactions.
  • Maintain financial and administrative logs.

4. Office Tasks

  • File management, correspondence, and internal reports.
  • Assist officers and managers with routine tasks.

5. Financial Transactions : Process NEFT/RTGS, fund transfers, and bill payments.

Post-Selection Training

  • Clerks undergo basic training on banking systems and customer service.
  • Learn to use banking software (CBS) and branch procedures.

Career Growth in IBPS Clerk

Though clerical posts start at the bottom of the hierarchy, there’s steady promotion through internal exams and performance-based promotions.
