RBI Grade B


The RBI Grade B Exam has specific eligibility criteria that candidates must meet in order to apply for the exam. These criteria include aspects like age, educational qualifications, nationality, and other requirements.

1. Nationality

A candidate must be one of the following:

  • Citizen of India
  • Subject of Nepal
  • Subject of Bhutan
  • Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  • Person of Indian origin (PIO) who has migrated from countries like Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Ethiopia, Vietnam, etc., with the intention of permanently settling in India.

2. Age Limit

The age of the candidate must be between:

  • Minimum Age: 21 years
  • Maximum Age: 30 years

Relaxation in upper age limit is provided for reserved categories:

  • SC/ST candidates: 5 years relaxation
  • OBC candidates: 3 years relaxation
  • PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities): 10 years relaxation (15 years for SC/ST, 13 years for OBC)
  • Ex-Servicemen: As per government norms

3. Educational Qualification

General (DR) - Officers in Grade B (General)

  • Minimum Qualification: A Bachelor’s degree with at least 60% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates) or an equivalent grade.

  • A Post Graduate Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwBD) or an equivalent grade.

Officers in Grade B (DEPR)

  • Educational Qualification: A Master's degree in Economics/Econometrics/Quantitative Economics/Integrated Economics Course from a recognized university or equivalent, with at least 55% marks.
  • Alternatively, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management with a focus on Economics or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

Officers in Grade B (DSIM)

  • Educational Qualification: A Master's degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Mathematical Economics or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Alternatively, a Post Graduate Diploma in Statistics or equivalent from a recognized institution.

4. Work Experience

  • General (DR) - Officers in Grade B (General): No prior work experience is required.
  • Officers in Grade B (DEPR and DSIM):
  • Work experience in the respective fields (Economic Research/Statistics) is desirable but not mandatory.

5. Other Criteria

  • Candidates should have proficiency in the English language (writing, reading, and speaking).
  • Candidates must meet medical fitness requirements as per RBI's standards.

6. Important Notes

  • The degree should be from a recognized university.
  • If a candidate's degree is in equivalent grade or CGPA, they must ensure the conversion to percentage is as per the official norms.
  • Candidates with any criminal charges or ongoing legal issues may be disqualified during the process.
