1. Eligibility for CPL (Commercial Pilot License)

A CPL is required to work as a commercial pilot for airlines, charter services, or other aviation-related jobs.

A. Age Requirement

  • Minimum 17 years at the time of application.
  • Must be 18 years to receive the CPL.

B. Educational Qualification

  • 10+2 or equivalent with Physics & Mathematics from a recognized board.
  • If a candidate did not have Physics & Math, they must complete these subjects through NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) or equivalent.

C. Medical Fitness

  • Must pass the DGCA Class 1 Medical Examination from an authorized medical examiner.
  • Good eyesight (correctable to 6/6 vision).
  • No serious medical conditions that could affect flight safety.

D. Flight Training Requirements

Minimum 200 hours of total flying time, including:

  • 100 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC)
  • 20 hours of cross-country flying
  • 10 hours of instrument training
  • 5 hours of night flying

E. DGCA Theory Exams for CPL

Candidates must pass the following DGCA theoretical exams:

  • Air Navigation
  • Air Regulations
  • Meteorology
  • Technical General
  • Technical Specific (aircraft type used in training)
  • Radio Telephony Restricted (RTR) – Separate exam conducted by WPC (Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing).

2. Eligibility for ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot License)

An ATPL is required to become a captain in commercial airlines.

A. Age Requirement

  • Minimum 21 years old.

B. Educational Qualification

  • 10+2 (Physics & Math) or equivalent.

C. Medical Fitness

  • Must hold a valid Class 1 Medical Certificate issued by DGCA.

D. Flight Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1500 hours of flying experience, including:
  • 500 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC)
  • 250 hours of cross-country flying
  • 75 hours of instrument time
  • 100 hours of night flying

E. DGCA Theory Exams for ATPL

Candidates must pass the following DGCA theoretical exams:

  • Air Navigation (Advanced)
  • Air Regulations
  • Meteorology (Advanced)
  • Radio Aids & Instruments

3. Additional Requirements

  • English Proficiency – Must clear an English Language Proficiency (ELP) test if required.
  • Indian Nationality – Most candidates applying must be Indian citizens. Foreign nationals may apply under DGCA regulations.
