Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC)
It is the highest-level competitive exam in Karnataka, equivalent to the UPSC Civil Services at the state level.


Purpose of the Exam

To recruit candidates for Group A and Group B Gazetted Officer posts in various departments of the Government of Karnataka.

KAS Exam Stages

  1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)

    • 2 Papers (General Studies – I & II)

    • Screening test for Mains.

  2. Main Examination (Descriptive Type)

    • 7 Papers (including Kannada & English compulsory papers)

  3. Personality Test / Interview

    • Final merit based on Mains + Interview.


Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

  • Age Limit:

    • General: 21 – 35 years

    • OBC (2A/2B/3A/3B): Up to 38 years

    • SC/ST/CAT-I: Up to 40 years

    • PWD: Up to 45 years


Salary Details (Approximate Pay Scale)

Allowances: DA, HRA, TA, and other state government benefits are applicable.

Step 1: Visit the Official KPSC Website

On the homepage, you’ll find options like:

  • Notifications

  • Online Application

  • Apply Now (KPSC Online Portal)

Click on “Apply Online for Gazetted Probationers (KAS)” when the notification is active.


Step 2: Read the Official Notification

  • Before applying, carefully download and read the KAS (Gazetted Probationers) Notification PDF.

  • Check:

    • Eligibility (age, education, category)

    • Vacancies and reservation

    • Important dates (start & last date)

    • Application fees

    • Required documents


Step 3: Register / Create an Account

  • Click on “New User Registration” (if you’re applying for the first time).

  • Enter:

    • Name (as per SSLC certificate)

    • Mobile number

    • Email ID

    • Date of birth and category details

  • You’ll receive a User ID and Password via SMS/email.


Step 4: Fill the Online Application Form

  • Log in using your User ID and Password.

  • Fill in:

    • Personal details (name, DOB, address)

    • Educational qualifications

    • Category / reservation details

    • Language preference (Kannada/English)

    • Post preference (Group A/B)

Tip: Double-check all entries before submitting.


Step 5: Upload Required Documents

You’ll need to upload scanned copies of:

  • Passport-size photograph (JPEG, <50KB)

  • Signature (JPEG, <25KB)

  • Certificates (if required for category, age, etc.)


Step 6: Pay the Application Fee

Pay the fee online through:

  • Debit Card / Credit Card

  • Net Banking / UPI

  • After successful payment, click “Submit”.

  • Download and print:

    • Application Form

    • Fee Payment Receipt
